Sensory Processing Dysfunction – Red Flags


The red flags listed below can be indicators that your child may need some additional support in sensory processing:

  • Over-sensitive to touch, sounds, food textures, busy environments
  • Unaware of pain or extremes in temperature (hot/cold)
  • Constant movement or activity
  • Fear of movement or of being off the ground
  • Difficulty self-soothing or calming down
  • Fussy about clothing tags, seams, fabrics
  • Can’t stand getting hair washed, brushed or cut
  • Difficulty learning new motor skills, or clumsiness in movement
  • Smells everything or puts everything in mouth (after toddler years)
